Jody was born March 7, 1943 in Holton, the son of Dueward and Josephine (Simecka) Constant. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1961.
He believed in working hard and one of his proudest moments was being an owner of Topeka Electric Motor from 1981 to 1997. When the business was sold, he continued to work there for an additional 10 years.
He attended First Baptist Church.
Jody had a love of boating and owned at least 20 different boats. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. As well as owning RV’s and going camping, he loved operating heavy equipment and enjoyed spending time with family and eating out with friends.
Jody married Shirley Cape on September 18, 1986 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Josephine Constant; children, Kevin (Deloris) Constant, Meriden, Patty (Dan) Doyle, Holton, Amy (Scott) Constant, Poulsbo, WA, Ed (Tonya) Cape, Tecumseh; grandchildren, Nathan (Katie) Doyle, Caleb (Brooke) Doyle, Ben Doyle, Mary Constant, Morgan Cape, David Blalock, Jadynn Doyle, Audrey Cape; great-grandsons, Rhett and Brantley Doyle; brother, Marlin Constant; sisters, Madalene Golden, Ethelene Rakestraw and Kathy Constant.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017
