John McCann, 93, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, KS. He was born May 7, 1920, in West Haven, CT, the son of Patrick J. and Agnes Kahrmann McCann. He graduated from High School in Canoga Park, CA in 1939.

John served in World War II in General Headquarters of the Armed Forces in the Pacific under the command of General MacArthur. He completed advanced courses in the real estate appraisal field after becoming a General Contractor and worked many years as a real estate appraiser. He held a SR/WA designation in the International Right of Way Association and retired from Universal Field Services of Tulsa, OK in 1987.

John was a member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church and served as a Deacon. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM, Scottish Rite and the Arab Shrine Temple, belonging to the Legion of Honor Unit. He was also a member of Helena Chapter No. 210, O.E.S. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues.

John married Elsie M. Barbarow on April 6, 1946 in Hollywood, CA. They were married 67 years. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2013. Survivors include his step-daughter, Joan M. Borden of Sun City, CA, twin granddaughters, Denise of Escondido, CA and Darleen of Bakersfield, CA and his sisters, Florence Richards of Bella Vista, AR and Genevieve Vecchiarelli of Wheat Ridge, CO.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery. John will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until Noon Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
