Robert Brian Hedberg, 71, died December 6, 2019 at St Francis Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Bob was born September 17,1948 to Robert & Charleen Collman Hedberg in Des Moines, IA. He graduated in 1966 from Urbandale High School, then Iowa State University in 1970, Master’s Degree in Psychology from Idaho State University in 1972. Bob also did all the coursework for his PhD in Educational Psychology at KU.

He married Janice Herrick in 1969 and divorced after 42 years. They had 2 children, Kristin and Eric. Bob married Cynthia Stotlar in 2015.

Bob worked for the State of Kansas in the SRS or JJA for most of his career. After retiring from JJA, he went to work for Shawnee County Health Agency in Topeka and then DCCCA in Lawrence, Kansas.

Bob enjoyed traveling, music (especially jazz), art, reading, & spending time with family & his pets. He was always active in his church community and served on the Board for First Baptist and as its Moderator.

Bob is survived by his wife, Cynthia, two children, Kristin (Kirby) Schmelzle of Seneca, and Eric (Doreen) Hedberg, of Minneapolis, MN, five grandchildren, and siblings Thomas (Carol) Hedberg of Moorhead, MN and Martha Hedberg of Coralville, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert, his father, (1968) and his mother Charleen (2008), and his sister Phyllis Jungck (1999).

Services will be at First Baptist Church on 3033 SW MacVicar Avenue Topeka, KS at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 10, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to either the First Baptist Building Fund or to Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka. Please bring cans of dog or cat food or cat or dog toys as donations for Helping Hands in honor of Jazz, Rudy and Rafiki who Bob adopted there.
