Robert L. “Bob” Potter, 82, of Topeka, passed away on April 15, 2019.

He was born on February 10, 1937 in Kansas City, MO the son of Leroy M. Potter and Florence (Rueckert) Potter.

Bob was an on-air radio broadcast professional, working at radio stations including KTOP and V/100. He also created and hosted a Saturday night radio oldies show called “The Happening,” which was broadcast from around 1969 – 1976. He later worked in news and sales, as well as management.

He married Judy Burgess on June 13, 1958. She survives. Other survivors include children, Robert A. Potter (Tami Wolnick), and Kim Banner (James Banner); grandchildren, Adam Banner, Joel Potter (Janet Yates), Zach Potter (Kelsey Winscott), Gabe Potter, Sean Potter (Elizabeth Lantz), Jason Banner (Cathy Lass); great-granddaughter, Madilyn Potter; and a sister and brother, Pat Stine, of Kansas City, Kansas and John Potter, of Amoret, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Philip Rudolph.

Bob was a man of faith and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with all his heart. He attended Kansas City Bible College (Calvary Bible College) in 1955 and 1956 and was very active in Youth for Christ in Kansas City, Missouri where he met his wife, Judy. Bob and his wife are currently members of Topeka Baptist Church.

He loved the outdoors and spent much time fishing and gardening and sharing his passion with his children and grandchildren. Many genres of music filled the Potter home, especially rock and roll, bluegrass, and gospel music. Bob loved the Colorado Rocky Mountains and spent many vacations being inspired by their grandeur and beauty.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery, 2301S. 34th St., Kansas City, KS 66106. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
