John A. Woody, 89, Topeka, entered into eternity on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Midland Hospice House.

John was born December 27, 1927 in Salina, Kansas, the son of Carl and Ruth (Russell) Woody. He graduated from Hunter High School in Hunter, KS in 1945 and from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was employed with TWA as Graphic illustrator and Manager of the Audio-Visual Department for over 38 years in Kansas City, retiring in 1992.

He served as an Elder at the Claycomo Church of Christ and was an active member of the Lawrence Church of Christ until his death.

John married Mary Elizabeth “Sue” Tharp on June 12, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. She died March 2, 2005. Survivors include their children, Henry (Vicky) Woody, Lee’s Summit, MO, Kyra (Stephen) Pehrson, Morgan Hill, CA, Glen (Becky)Woody, Gladstone, Mo, Kimber ( Steven) Wright, Topeka, KS; 28 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Lockwood, Broomfield, CO. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ward (LuAnn) Woody; brothers, Merwin and Elwyn; sister, Ruth; and baby sister, Phyllis.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Church of Christ or Midland Care.
