Carole Jean (Johnson) Stone, 79, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017.

Carole was born June 13, 1937, in Topeka, KS, to Raymond and Inez (Kelly) Johnson. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1955 and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Washburn University. She taught kindergarten for USD 501. She later married Lawrence “Larry” R. Stone on April 23, 1961, in Topeka, KS. Larry and Carole shared 33 years of devoted marriage until he passed away on August 18, 1994. Together they had three children. Carole was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority at Washburn University. She was an active member of Tecumseh United Methodist Church where she was a Mother’s Day Out provider and preschool teacher for many years. She volunteered her time at the church, Midland Hospice and the annual Crop Walk at Lake Shawnee. Carole enjoyed helping others, playing bingo, country dancing, and bowling.

She is survived by her three children, Scott (Jennifer) Stone of Olathe, KS, Melinda Blaser of Topeka, KS, Brian (Michelle) Stone of Platte City, MO; six grandchildren, Alexander, Wolf III, Skylar, Nicholas, Lauren, and Addison; brother, William “Bill” Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; and nine nieces and nephews.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and dear friend and companion, William “Bill” Land.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. A private family burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh, KS 66542.
