William E. Michener Jr.

William E. Michener Jr, 92, of Topeka, passed away on July 12, 2025.

He was born on August 24, 1932 to Dr. William E. and Mildred (Pardee) Michener at Topeka, KS.

Bill graduated from Topeka High School in 1950. He was a 3 sport varsity athlete.

Bill received his bachelor degree from the University of Kansas. He served with honor as a pilot for the United States Air Force. He earned his Masters of Industrial Management degree from the University of Illinois.

He enjoyed his work at Josten’s and then Volume Shoe (Payless Shoe-Source).

He married Jane Henry of Oskaloosa in 1955. They had a daughter and a son, Monica (Mueller) and Mitch. Bill and Jane lived in Topeka.

In 2001, he married Nancy Greenwood. They remained married until her death.

He was a member of Countryside Methodist Church, First Christian Church, and First Congregational Church through the years. He served on several bank boards and local business boards.

William is survived by his daughter; Monica (Michael) Mueller, son; William "Mitch" H. Michener, grandchildren; Amy, Megan, Luke, William and Wyatt, and 10 great grandchildren. Also, Nancy’s children, Jeff (Kathy) Greenwood and Mark (Tracy) Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Jane Michener (1998), wife; Nancy Joyce Michener (2024).

Funeral services will be held on July 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. with visitation being the hour prior to service time, both at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604

Burial will take place immediately following the funeral in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Kansas.
