William “Bill” Logan McCullough was born April 17th, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas. He passed peacefully on September 24th, 2025, at the age of 96, while surrounded by family.
Bill was adopted as a baby by his Aunt Adelia and Uncle Rolla McCullough. He entered the workforce at an early age and carried a strong work ethic with him throughout his life.
On September 17, 1949, Bill married his “sweet pea”, Barbara Parnell. Together they raised two children, Sherry and William (Billy), and shared their home with many beloved dogs. In his later years, Bill devoted himself to caring for Barb during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Their 69 years of marriage were filled with love, compassion, patience, and many laughs.
Bill proudly served his country as an engineer in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. Following his service, Bill went on to build a distinguished career with the Kansas Gas Service Company, where he spent more than 30 years welding gas lines. During his career and in retirement, you could often find him in his garage “tinkering” with something.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, and gardening. Affectionately known as the neighborhood “Tomato Man”, he loved to share anything he grew with friends, family, neighbors, and strangers.
He exuded kindness and compassion to all, regardless of background, race, or religion. He believed deeply in treating others with respect and carried his infectious optimism - and a touch of orneriness - with him through his final days.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara McCullough, his son, William “Billy” McCullough, and his daughter, Sherry Talley. He is survived by his grandson, Thomas James McCullough, granddaughter, Chelsie Calvert, grandson-in-law, Dane Calvert, and daughter-in-law, Cathy McCullough.
