William Dell George Jr. “Dub”, 76, of Lawrence, passed away on February 2, 2025, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.
Dub was born on May 14, 1948, to William and Adolphine (Tatum) George in Little Rock, Arkansas.
On August 14, 1970, he married Sophronia "Sophie" A. George (Hugueley) in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they met in 1965 at Little Rock Central High. Dub and Sophie moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas after marrying and Dub continued his education completing a Master of Arts as well as a Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology.
They moved to Stephenville, Texas where he taught at Tarleton State University, part of the A&M System.
Dub and Sophie had their 2 children during this time in Texas.
In 1978 Dub applied with the Federal Government and was hired to start the Audiology and Speech Pathology program on the VA Campus in Topeka, Kansas.
Dub worked as a Speech Pathologist for 41 years, 31 as the Chief of Audiology and Speech Pathology with the VA in Topeka, KS and 10 years in private practice after retiring from the VA in 2009.
Dub and Sophie lived in Topeka for 46 years and they both fully retired in March of 2019. They moved to Lawrence, Kansas November 2023.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral. He was an Eagle Scout since he was a teen and continued many of the Scout’s skills and traits and applied them to how he lived his life.
Dub is survived by his loving wife; Sophronia "Sophie", daughter; Tatum (Troy) Bandy, son; Trey (Courtney) George, brother; David (Janice) George, granddaughters; Ainsley Bandy and Ajah Banks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; William D George Sr. “Bill” and Adolphine George.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, 11:00 am with visitation to start one hour prior to service time, both at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, KS 66604.
Entombment to follow service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
