Willard Martin Hasty, Jr.

Willard Martin Hasty, Jr., 81, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

He was born December 27, 1942, in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Willard A., Sr. and Mary Ellen (Kirby) Hasty. Willard was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

In February 2000, he married Patricia Kay Hasty in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen & Willard Hasty, Sr., grandparents, Curtis & Minnie Hasty, brother, Arthur Hasty, daughter, Mary Jane Varner, and step-son, Jason VanDam.

Survivors include his daughter, Melinda Smelley and her husband, Shannon; step-son, Michael Robb; two grandchildren, Chris (Hannah) Hicks and Jennifer Hicks; four great-grandchildren, Jordon, Jason, Katelyn, and Wrenley; and several nieces and nephews. Willard also had a very special fur baby, Bella.

Willard enjoyed working around his yard in his flower gardens. He collected and handmade Native American Jewelry and Dream catchers. He had a love for older cars and had a large collection of toy collectable cars everywhere.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at First Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment with military honors will follow the service at 1:00 pm at Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at Fort Riley.
