Wayne Michael Weber, 99, of Topeka, passed away on May 12, 2025 at Plaza West Regional Health Center.
He was born on February 15, 1926 to George and Hattie (Hutchison) Weber in Carlton, Kansas.
Wayne graduated from Abilene High School in Abilene, Kansas in 1944. He served in the US Army Corps as a radio operator from 1944-1946 at the end of World War II. Part of the time he was stationed in the Philippines. He attended McPherson College, McPherson, KS, and graduated from Sioux Falls College, Sioux Falls, SD in 1949. While stationed in Sioux Falls, SD, he met his wife, Betty, at a church Bible study.
On December 27, 1947, Wayne married Betty Elaine Heitzman in Emery, South Dakota, and brought her home to Kansas. They lived in Carlton and Eskridge before moving to Topeka where they had lived since November, 1958.
Wayne worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He was employed by Rural Mail Carriers of Kansas prior to his retirement in 1994. During his employment, he and his wife traveled to many Rural Mail Carriers’ conferences and were both a part of leadership for the Kansas area. Prior to this, Wayne worked a variety of sales positions.
Wayne loved his family, his community and gardening, both at his home and at Community Church. When his sons participated in scouting, he became the Scoutmaster and continued for several years.
He had been a member of Community Church since 1958. For more than 50 years he served as both a deacon and an elder. Wayne actively attended all services, making himself available to assist others as needed; and, along with his wife, served as a marriage and family class teacher.
