Walter Joseph Wright, 73, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
He was born September 28, 1952, in Dumas, Texas, the son of Kenneth Earl and Lois Lucille (Burton) Wright. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka and attended Washburn University in Topeka. He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in South Korea, until his honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Joe worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Topeka, retiring in 2013. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Union, Local #307, and also served his community as a volunteer firefighter for Soldier Township.
On November 23, 1974, Joe married the love of his life, Pil Kyong Song, in Topeka. Together, they built a beautiful life, and she survives him at home. His legacy lives on through his children, Dustin (Susan) Wright of San Diego, CA, and Tracy (Kendell) Bennion of Denver, CO as well as his four cherished grandchildren: Mason Bennion, Joseph Bennion, Emma Wright, and Asher Wright. He is also survived by his sisters, Sherry Hermann of Colorado and Linda Hays of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick States.
Joe loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed fishing and taking family vacations.
