Veora L. Lyda, 93, Topeka, passed away at Plaza West Regional Health Center on Tuesday, January 1, 2008. She was born on June 12, 1914 in Perry, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Mary Ann (Ferrell) Stalons. Veora graduated from Topeka High School in 1932 and was a life long Topeka resident. She worked as a stenographer for the State of Kansas, Revisor of Statutes, retiring in 1979 after 44 years of service. Veora was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Northland Christian Church and the Topeka Women's Bowling Association for over 50 years. She had a life long love for dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Veora and her husband also spent many wonderful years boating, fishing, and entertaining at Pomona Lake. Veora married Bernell R. Lyda on December 19, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1997. Veora is survived by one daughter, Beverly "Jean" and her husband, Boyd Allen; one granddaughter, Becky and her husband, Brad Hiebsch and three great -grandchildren, Audrie, Adam and Adrienne Hiebsch. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rovel Stalons. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Burial will follow. Veora will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
