Sue Houghton

Sue Houghton, 90 years young, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Overbrook, Kansas. She was born on January 27, 1935, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and Velma (Howerton) Arnold.

Sue graduated from Chanute High School and furthered her education at Clark's School of Business, where she met her beloved husband of 65 years, Edward Houghton. They were married May 15, 1954 in Topeka, KS.

Throughout her career as legal secretary and office manager, Sue worked at various law firms in Topeka, retiring from Glenn, Cornish Law Firm.

Sue loved Ed and they enjoyed traveling and exploring the United States, often visiting family and friends.

Throughout her life, Sue was actively involved in various community groups, including being a Camp Fire Girl Leader for her daughters, the Topeka Legal Secretaries Association, and the Topeka Needlework Guild.

She found joy in her hobbies, including collecting thimbles, tatting, and needlework. However, her greatest treasure was spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Mark) Towle and Diane (Dave) Gestenslager, her beloved grandchildren, Karen (Vince) Ferraro, Brian (Erica) Towle, and great-grandchildren, Gianna Ferraro, Caden Ferraro, and Annabelle Towle. Sue also leaves behind her brother Mike (Pam) Arnold and her sister-in-law Marlene Haynes.

Sue was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Houghton, along with her parents, Floyd and Velma (Howerton) Arnold, and her brother, Bob Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Overland Park KS.

For those wishing to pay their respects, visitation will be held on November 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka. A funeral service will be conducted the following day, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with a graveside service to follow at Reading Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
