Stanley Macklin

Stanley Strong Macklin, 92, Derby, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008.

Stanley was born January 8, 1915 in Ralston, OK, the son of Frank and Amy (Lawrence) Macklin.

During the 1930's Stanley served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and in the U.S. Army/Mounted Calvary. In 1940, he went to work at Hertz as a furniture mover. Wanting to serve his country, Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served at the munitions depot in Hawthorne, NV. In 1946 Stanley received an honorable discharge and resumed his career with Hertz/Yellow Cab. At the time of his retirement, Stanley was the Office Manager/Treasurer of Yellow Cab in Topeka Kansas.

Stanley married Edna Rempel on December 5, 1936. She died May 17, 2003. They lived in Topeka for 60 years along with their daughter, Sandra.

Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating, and the family traveled many times out west, camping along the way. He was a member of the coin club and gun club of Topeka. Recently Stanley and Sandra spent a year living in Oregon with his oldest granddaughter, before moving to Derby, Kansas in September of 2007 to live with his youngest granddaughter.

Stanley was a great husband, a wonderful father, a loving grandfather and caring uncle. He was one of the rare individuals who never complained or had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was always upbeat and more than willing to help out whenever asked. He will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Survivors include a daughter; Sandra Macklin; granddaughters, Beverly (Shubert) Crane, Teresa Shubert; grandson, Steven Schubert; great-granddaughter, Amy Shubert; and daughter-in-law, Eleanor Shubert. He was preceded in death by son; Robert Shubert, and brothers, James Macklin, Alva Macklin, Raymond Macklin, Clarence Macklin and Cecil Macklin.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Stanley will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
