Sandy “Moonbeam” Roberts passed away leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and a determination that everyone who knew her will remember. Born in Sandersville, Mississippi, Sandy believed life was what you made of it, and she filled hers with love, adventure, and family.
Sandy was known for her kind heart, quick wit, and unmistakable stubborn streak. Once she made up her mind, there was little chance of changing it. Those who loved her knew the best response was often to smile, nod, and let Sandy be Sandy.
She spent over 34 years as a Vault Manager at Fidelity Bank in Topeka, Kansas, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of coworkers and customers. She valued hard work, kindness, and a good sense of humor (and a tasty Margarita)
Sandy loved to travel, especially to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and treasured returning to Sandersville for family and class reunions.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Raymond Roberts of Topeka, Kansas, and their beloved rescue dog, Ella. She is also survived by her son, John Phillip Buffin (Dana) of Luling, Texas; her brothers, Paul Wayne Underwood (Carole) of Topeka, Kansas, and Stanley Madison Underwood of Banning, California; her grandchildren, Zachery Ryan Buffin of Fort Stockton, Texas, Shelby Paige Buffin of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dane Conner Buffin (Nicole) of Valrico, Florida; Ava Lee Buffin of Luling, Texas; her niece, Cheri Lyn Bernard (James) of Topeka, Kansas, their sons, Dylan and Jake Bernard, and many extended family members and dear friends.
Sandy will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and the love she shared with those around her. Her memory will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Luling Animal Welfare Society (Lulinglaws.org) PO Box 653, Luling, Texas 78648 the shelter where Ella was adopted.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Legend at Capital Ridge, 1931 SW Arvonia Place, Topeka, Kansas 66615.
