Russell John Lindgren, 78, formerly of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He was born August 14, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Russell and Juanita (Cottrel) Lindgren. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1965, and received his bachelor’s degree from Washburn University in 1969. That same year, Russ was drafted and served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He went back to Washburn University to attend law school shortly after returning from Vietnam, graduating with a law degree in 1974.
He dedicated over 20 years as an attorney for the State of Kansas Unemployment Division, working for the division fresh out of law school until he had to retire.
Russ had a love for classic cars, listening to oldies, and never came across a western he hadn’t seen. In his younger years, he enjoyed being more active; jogging outdoors, playing in a slow-pitch softball league and snow skiing.
He leaves behind his daughters, Ramsi (Brett) Thompson and Rylee (Zack) A Lindgren; grandchildren, which always brought a smile to his face, Vivian and Cooper Thompson; and his sister, Carol (Rock) A Lindgren-Bron. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, please check back for further details. Inurnment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America (Dementia Society of America/donate).
