Jody Langley, 84, passed away on November 8, 2025, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was born on March 26, 1941, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles Perry and Helen Marie (Tomlinson) Hancock.
Jody graduated from Hoisington High School in 1958 and further pursued her calling to be a nurse by graduating from Stormont Vail Nursing College in 1962 and beginning her Career working in the State Hospital in Topeka. After a few years she began working at the Topeka VA Hospital where she spent the majority of her career.
She enjoyed nursing and loved working in geriatrics, psychiatrics, and oncology. Her relationships with her oncology patients lead to a large amount of Cardinal collectables. Helping patients in their time of need was her passion. When a patient would die she took it personally.
After retiring, Jody enjoyed making quilts and seeing the joy they would bring others. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Her lifelong friends were Joe and Dove Edgerton, Sharon Warman and a very good neighbor of 60 years, Nancy Myers.
Jody loved Jesus, her family, both immediate and extended, and was a member of Town and Country Christian Church for almost 50 years.
On July 2, 1960, Jody married Bert Langley in Hoisington, Kansas and spent their entire marriage living in Topeka Kansas.
Jody was preceded in death by her husband Bert Langley, her Mother Marie Hancock, brother Charles Francis Hancock and sister Jacquelyn Huslig.
Jody is survived by her three sons: Jeffrey and his wife Lynn of Littleton, Colorado; David and his wife Raquel of Newton, Kansas; and Jack and his wife Kathy of Shenandoah, Iowa. Seven grandchildren: Janell, Sarah, Stephen, Hannah, Kelsi, Jared, and Daniel. Sisters: Margaret McConnell and Jean Demel, and brother, Richard Hancock, and half sister Sue Hancock.
Jody's legacy is one of hard work, courage, dedication, and love. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by those who had the privilege to know her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Town and Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS 66614. She will be laid to rest at Foster Cemetery in Topeka, KS. In her honor, memorial contributions can be made to The Shenandoah Pregnancy and Resource Center, 501 W Valley Ave, Shenandoah, IA 51601.
