Listen to Obituary

Richard Leroy Crook, a lifelong resident of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on August 16, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 3, 1954, Richard dedicated his life to family, friends, and his flourishing career, leaving behind an indelible mark on all who knew him.

For over 35 years, Richard, alongside his beloved wife Roberta Crook, co-owned the Flower Gallery, a venture that not only showcased their shared passion for floral artistry but also became a beloved staple in the community. The warmth and care that Richard poured into his work reflected his kind spirit and incredible attention to detail—a testament to his personal and professional life that resonated with so many. In his later years, Richard embraced new opportunities, working diligently with various realtors, continually embodying dedication and hard work.

A proud graduate of Highland Park High School, Class of 1972, Richard's roots in Topeka were deep, enriched by the relationships and experiences he fostered over the years. He was known for his remarkable ability to connect with others, often leaving strangers feeling like friends. Richard had a distinct charm, combining his witty sense of humor with an unwavering kindness that endeared him to many. He would do anything for you, a phrase often echoed by those whose lives he touched.

His passions extended beyond his professional life. Richard loved golfing, finding joy in the game and the camaraderie that came with it. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, always following football and cheering for the University of Kansas basketball team. His zest for life was palpable, and he brought joy to gatherings, always ready to share a laugh and a story.

Richard's greatest pride was his marriage to Roberta, a bond that lasted proudly for 50 years. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared experiences. Richard is survived by his devoted wife Roberta; his loving mother, Norma Jean Crook (Jerry) Caldwell; his sister, Linda (Andy) Gleason; and brothers Dennis (Nancy) Crook and Keith (Karen) Crook. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, each one carrying a piece of his legacy in their hearts.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dean Crook, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit lives on through the foundations of love he established and the memories that will forever warm the hearts of his family and friends.

In celebrating Richard’s life, those he leaves behind will remember the joy he spread, the laughter he ignited, and the genuine kindness that defined his character. He will be deeply missed but remain forever in the echoes of the lives he has touched.
