Becky Griffy Mathers passed away on February 7th, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born November 28, 1933 to Elva and George Griffy in Topeka, Kansas.
Becky married Donald Eugene Mathers December 26, 1954. They both grew up in the Oakland area of Topeka and attended Topeka High School together. Donald joined the ROTC while attending Washburn University, and became a navigator in the United States Air Force. This took Becky and Don to California, Kansas, Nebraska and Hawaii. During this time, they had three children by whom she is survived: Bret (Kelley), Brian (Chris) and Barrie (Gregory). Becky is also survived by three grandchildren, Grant Mathers, Mead Colorado; Isabella McIntire (Aaron), Norwalk Iowa; and Emma Chenoweth (David), New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Lance and Lexi Mathers, Benjamin and Abigail McIntire, Tyson and Jada Plachecki.
While Becky was raising her and Don's children she got involved in Hawaiian quilting, bowling, and embroidery. In retirement Becky loved to play Mah Jong, tennis, and the card game 31 with friends and family.
Becky was preceded in death by her wonderful loving husband Don. She missed him every day. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Harry, Mike, Tom and Warren Hummer, and her sisters Jean Hummer Draper and Harriet Hummer Star. Becky will be missed by her family and friends.
Memorial services will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00AM at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel (4700 SW 17th St. Topeka, KS, 66044) with Pastor Dr. David Meyers officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to service. Inurnment will immediately follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Helping Hands Humane Society.
