Phyllis Nadine "Sue" Anderson

Phyllis Nadine “Sue” Anderson, 95, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026.

She was born April 13, 1931, in Allen, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Newby) Moffett. She was a 1948 graduate of Mayetta High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from Washburn University in 1952.

Sue was employed by Security Benefit Group in Topeka, many years, until retiring in 1993.

Sue married Robert L. “Bob” Anderson on May 7, 1957, in Casper, WY. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2015. Survivors include her son, Marc (Pam) Anderson, Topeka; her daughters, Vonnie (Jack) Anderson-Woodruff, Longmont, CO and Lisa (Jim) Fincham, Topeka; five grandchildren, Megan Woodruff, Kallie Woodruff, Jake Woodruff and his fiancé, Ciara, all of Longmont, CO, Michelle Anderson Chicago, IL and Marcy (Cooper) Garman of Topeka; her nieces and nephews; Liz Scruggs, Grover Beach, CA, Alan Buonasera, Jenks, OK, Russell Buonasera, Missouri City, TX, Howard and Teri Buonasera, Isle of Palms, SC, Merilu and Skip Boyd, Overland Park, KS, several great and great great nieces and nephews, and extended cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters, Juanita Roese, Betty Buonasera and Donna James; her nephew, Thom Scruggs and her niece, Khym Scruggs.

Sue loved spending time with family and attending family sporting events. She also loved travel, both near and far, traveling to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, winter trips to South Padre Island with extended family, cruising the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific Coasts, and many trips in between. She enjoyed bowling, going to the beach, antiquing, flea market shopping, reading, her feline companions, and was an avid KU Basketball fan. Some of her other indulgences were homemade ice cream and a good cup of coffee.

Her family will remember her wit, humor, and smile, as well as the thoughtful Christmas stockings she would create for all family members, and her pot roast, ham, and lasagna dinners.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
