Patrick McVay Kelly

Patrick “Pat” McVay Kelly, 68, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

He was born June 3, 1958, in Saint Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Joseph P. and Collece E. (Avard) Kelly. He was a 1976 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in St. Louis, MO, and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri- Columbia.

Pat was employed by Topeka Capital Journal, for 25 years until retiring.

He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Brewery Collectables Club of America.

Pat is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Regnier) Kelly who he married on October 25, 1985 in Topeka. Other survivors include his two daughters, Erin Kelly and her fiancée, Eric Daniels of Kansas City, MO and Colleen Kelly of Lawrence, KS; his sister, Kerry Olliff and her husband, Eric of St. Louis and now of Portugal; his three nieces and nephew, Connor Olliff, Cassidy Olliff, Kiersten Olliff and Kragan Cross and her husband, Shad; his father-in-law, Arthur Turner and a host of friends.

Pat celebrated his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, beer can collecting, barbecuing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and K.C. Chiefs fan.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until Noon, Friday, October 23, 2026 at the Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas, followed by a brief funeral service. Private family interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
