Mildred M. Schilling, 94, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008.
Mildred was born November 20, 1913 in Long Island, NY, the daughter of Charles H. and Martha A. (Connor) Schilling. She was a graduate of Woodmere High School and Adelphi University, Garden City, Long Island, NY.
She taught English in District 14, Hewlett, Long Island, New York for 33 years, retiring in 1969.
Mildred moved to Topeka in 1972 to be close to her sister, Alice Soper, and her family.
She was a member of A.A.U.W., New York Retired Teacher's Association and received a Gold Key from Pi Gamma Mu - Social Science Fraternity.
Survivors include her sister, Alice Soper and husband, Gerard, Topeka; sister in law, Bettie A. Schilling, Endwell, New York; nephew, Charles A. Schilling, Topeka; niece, Arlene E. Schilling and husband, Paul Detwiler,and their son, James E. Detwiler, Endwell, NY; niece, Susan A. Dillinger and husband, Edwin, Westmorland, KS; a step niece and two step nephews; four great great step nephews and two great great step nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles A. Schilling.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mildred will lie in at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
