Mary Ann Watson

Mary Ann Watson, 77, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026.

She was born March 2, 1949, in Dimmitt, Texas, the daughter of Olin L. and Leona F. (Simmons) LaPlant. She was a 1968 graduate of Liberal High School, Liberal, Kansas and attended Emporia State University in Emporia, KS.

She was a member of Liberal Friends Church, Liberal, Kansas.

Mary married Jerry L. Watson on January 31, 1976, in Liberal, Kansas, sharing over 50 happy years together. He survives in Topeka. Other survivors include her two sons, Brett Watson of Topeka and Jeffery Watson of Lawrence, KS; her sister, Linda Smith of Ogden, UT; her brother, Dennis LaPlant of Corpus Christi, TX; and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Larry LaPlant.

Mary loved her family and was very proud of her sons. Her unwavering desire was that they graduate from college, so they could find the careers they loved doing, which they both did. Sunday breakfast with her family were very special to her. She also enjoyed movies, music, and going to the casino.

Cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony has been planned for October, 10, 2026 from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. at the downtown Ramada Inn, 420 SE 6th St, Topeka, KS 66607.
