Marvin Eugene Billings passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 96. Born on December 23, 1928, in Maple Hill, Kansas, Marvin's life was a testament to dedication, service, and above all, love for his family and community.
Marvin's career began as a Heating Plant Foreman at Forbes Air Force Base, where he distinguished himself as a Civil Service Member. His unwavering commitment to his work led him to transfer to Colmery O'Neil Veterans Hospital, where he continued to serve with distinction until his retirement. Following this, he continued to be active in the community, working part-time for the Auburn Rural Water District #1. Beyond his professional endeavors, Marvin engaged in various farm work, always willing to lend a hand whenever needed.
A proud veteran, Marvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his sense of duty and commitment to his country. He remained actively involved in the American Legion, fostering friendships and bonds built on shared experiences.
Marvin was a Washburn Rural High School graduate. He dedicated 15 years to working with the Boy Scouts of America, imparting wisdom and values to future generations. His hands were often busy, crafting beautiful wooden furniture and enjoying the satisfaction of woodworking. Even into his later years, he found joy in farming alongside family members and mowing hay until the remarkable age of 86.
Marvin is survived by his loving children, Myron and Coleen (Billings) Akers and Roger Billings; daughter in-law, Keri Billings; his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, cherishing the moments spent with them. His dear sister, Dorothy Frye, and brother, Paul Billings, alongside many nieces and nephews, will miss him deeply.
Marvin was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kevin Billings, and his two wives, Alma (Gremmel) Billings and Della (Kohls) Billings. He also mourned the loss of his parents, Burdette and Clara Billings and his siblings, Richard Billings, Mary Heise, Delbert Billings, Bertie Billings, Mike Billings, and Donna Billings, who now rest in peace.
Friends and family are invited to honor Marvin's legacy. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka on September 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church on September 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a burial at West Lawn Memorial Gardens at 11:15 AM with military honors. In his honor, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Classical Lutheran School, 901 SW Fillmore St, Topeka, KS 66606.
