Marjorie Jean Lamb

Jean Hall Lamb died on August 4, 2026, with loving family present. Memorial Services for Jean Lamb will be at 1:30 pm, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Topeka, KS.

Jean was born Oct 3, 1926, in the family home in Clyde, KS, to Elmer and Myrtle Hall, the youngest of five children. She graduated from Macksville, KS. High School in May 1944. She then attended Hutchinson Jr. College. Jean was married to Robert Lamb, and from this union three children were born - Judi Boland (Judith), (Linda) Lea Minton Westervelt, and Brent Lamb. She also has 7 grandchildren: Tracy Boland, Stephanie Boland Anderson, Jon Boland, Kyle Minton, Craig Minton, Emily Lamb, and Scott Lamb. There are 9 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Zachary, and Samuel Hughes; Violet and Bridger Boland; Brenan Moon and Audrey Minton; Adelaide and Gus Minton.

Jean attended college and graduated from Washburn University in December of 1967 with a degree in Education. She later received a Master of Education degree in 1980, graduating with the highest distinction. For 25 years, Jean enthusiastically taught 1st grade and kindergarten in the Auburn-Washburn school district, retiring in 1992.

Playing the piano and organ was an identity Jean held from a very young age. She was so busy accompanying groups at school and church that she did not participate in very many other ways, even though she was naturally athletic and gifted academically. She played piano well into her 90s for her Sunday School class and even was the fill-in organist for the church service at Brewster Place in Topeka, her retirement community. For the last three years, she lived at Via Christi Village in Manhattan, KS, receiving excellent care from devoted staff and, in the last months, from Interim Hospice. Jean loved being an active part of First Baptist Church of Topeka, KS for over 50 years.

One of her favorite hobbies was waterskiing, which she did even as a 70-year-old. Also, a passion of hers was dancing. She traveled through the Midwest to attend polka and big band dancing events and even took special dancing riverboat cruises on the Mississippi. At the age of 40, she started a walking and exercise regimen that continued through the rest of her life. She even received an award in 2017 for being the "Brewster Place Wellness Rockstar". She was very proud of that.

Jean lived her life as an example worth following - she loved her family, exercised, ate right, and was involved in doing good.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen and Betty, brothers Charles and Bill, and her daughter, Judi.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Topeka Rescue Mission (600 N. Kansas Ave Topeka, KS 66608) or First Baptist Church of Topeka (3033 SW Macvicar Ave Topeka, KS 66611).
