Kenneth A. Burns, 75, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Born on November 9, 1950, the son of Charles and Betty (McDaniel) Burns. Kenneth lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a genuine love for his family and community.

He was a proud graduate from Silver Lake High School, where he played football.

Kenneth devoted nearly 30 years to Topeka Transit as a bus driver, where he formed many lasting relationships with the riders along his routes. His presence was a familiar and comforting one in the community, especially during the holiday season when he would joyfully drive the Topeka Trolley dressed in festive gear, spreading cheer to all who rode with him. His dedication to his work was fueled by a deep sense of pride and motivation.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for watching the Kansas City Chiefs and KU Basketball. He also cherished time spent at different lakes boating. He and Deb enjoyed going on various cruises with their cruising buddies. Kenneth took great pleasure in home improvement projects, always applying his hardworking nature and attention to detail in everything he undertook.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Deb Burns, who stood by his side through life's many seasons. His children, Shawn (Julie Miles) Burns and Travis (Laura) Burns, carry forward his legacy, along with his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie and Allie Burns, who brought him immense joy. Kenneth also leaves behind his sister, Karen McCrory; his brother, Ronald (Bonnie) Burns; and his sister-in-law, Carol Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Todd Burns.

Kenneth A. Burns will be remembered not only for his contributions to Topeka Transit and his community but also for the kindness and warmth he shared with all who knew him. His commitment to his family, his work, and his passions reflected a life well-lived and a spirit that will continue to inspire.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Hospice.
