Jose Luis Lara, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Topeka on November 22, 2023, surrounded by his devoted family and under the compassionate care of Midland Hospice.

Born on November 16, 1958, in Juarez, Mexico, to Archiblado and Socorro Diaz-Lara, Jose's journey was marked by resilience, dedication, and unwavering love.

At the age of 14, Jose's family relocated to California to pursue his love for boxing. Starting as a featherweight boxer, he traversed numerous states, leaving his mark in the ring. Outside the ring, Jose dedicated over 35 years of his life as a floor technician and custodian, finding pride and fulfillment in his work at First United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church, Aldersgate Nursing Home, and The Healthcare Resort of Topeka.

Jose was preceded in death by his father, Archibaldo Lara, his mother, Socorro Lara, and five brothers. His memory will endure as that of a devoted husband, a nurturing father, a doting grandfather, and a cherished friend to many.

On October 26, 1991, Jose married the love of his life, Rachel Lara (Castillo), and together they laid the foundation for a beautiful family, making Topeka, KS, their cherished home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rachel, and their sons, Ruben and Victor, who were the lights of his life. Jose leaves behind a legacy of love and strength embraced by his four brothers, five grandchildren-Richard, William, Maxwell, Cooper, and Greyson a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, notably Lawrence and Marilyn Brock, and his church community.

A memorial service honoring Jose's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the Klasse Chapel at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66603. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to support the family in covering expenses during this difficult time.
