Jimmie Leon Cole, 82, Topeka, went to be with his Lord Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 4th, 1941 in Neodesha, KS to Francis W. and C. Maxine (Hummel) Cole. The oldest of six, He quickly learned the value of hard work helping his family on their farm in southern Kansas.
Jimmie and his family moved to Topeka, KS shortly before his freshman year in high school. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1959.
He was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, and served in Germany from 1965-1968. He was honorably discharged as an infantry sergeant in March of 1968.
Soon after arriving home, Jimmie was introduced to the love of his life, Sharon. The two were married December 7, 1968. Jimmie was a proud father, raising two sons, Trent and Thad.
He began his lifelong career in the grocery business at the age of 12. His longest tenure was at Falley's/Food 4 Less for 30 plus years. He retired in May of 1999.
Jimmie was a long time member of Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the board, sang in the choir, was a cast member in the Topeka Passion play, and participated in various ministries for the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Cathy Thompson, Belinda Cunningham, and brother Gary Cole.
He is survived by his spouse Sharon, Children: Trent (Randi) Cole, Thad (Heather) Cole, Grandchildren: Reece, Avery, and Wilson Cole, Sisters: Cheryl Lindburg (Richard), Joan Bell (Larry), and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, February 24th at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. The family will greet visitors from 10:00 to 11:00, with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:30.
