Jill Bybee Ables – aka “MaBear” of Topeka, Kansas passed away on December 3, 2025. She was born the first daughter to Jack L. and Delores M. Bybee.
She attended Washburn Rural High. Upon graduation she worked for a short time at Santa Fe. Jill later met Charles E. Ables. They married and had four children, and later divorced.
Jill was a great PTA parent and room mother. After her children were old enough she returned to work, starting at the family business, The Topeka Foundry and Iron Works Company. There she found her calling and met many, many great people along the way who she treasured! She loved decorating for the Holidays. You could find her climbing a little ladder, hanging big red bows on the fence’s at Jackson & Quincy St, and preparing the large meals for her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner’s at her log home.
Jill, along with a special group of friends and family, would host steak fries at the Bybees Cabin. She truly enjoyed the camaraderie at these gatherings. Jill also found joy in volunteering at Heartland Park Topeka Motorsports Park where, again, she met so many great people and built lasting friendships. She also volunteered with the Topeka Police Department as a VIP.
She retired at 70 and looked forward to spending time in her home and at the cabin. At the cabin she’d get on her John Deere mower and mow for hours, weed eating in her shorts and tennis shoes, and taking a coke break and a short nap.
At home she hired Doug who mowed for her, and she enjoyed talking to him. She also enjoyed her grandkids.
Jill is survived by her brother, Jack Lee Bybee of Topeka, KS and sister Laurie Jan Biggs, of Lyndon, KS. She is also survived by her four children Carla Wade of Topeka, Brent Ables of Topeka, Kristen Ables of Topeka, and Brian “Pooh” Ables of Carbondale. Also surviving her are her grandchildren Blake Wade (Leah), Drew Wade, Austin Wade, Cameron Ables, all of Topeka, and Cheyenne Jackson (Jason) of Mayetta, KS, and the youngest grandchild “CD” Charles D. Brunner Ables of Carbondale, as well as many great grandchildren.
As Jill’s health started to decline we needed help caring for mom. After changing to Grace Home Care we got lucky to find Laura, who cared for our mom like family. Mom enjoyed Laura very much.
