Betty Jean Kelly, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 95. Born on March 1, 1930, in Parsons, Kansas, Jean lived a life rich in love and faith.
A proud graduate of Topeka High School in 1947, Jean continued her education at Washburn University, where she expanded her knowledge and passions. It was during her time in high school that she met her lifelong partner, William R. Kelly. The two high school sweethearts were married on February 4, 1951 in Topeka, KS.
Jean was not only devoted to her family but also deeply engaged with her faith. She actively participated in the Christian Women's Fellowship at First Christian Church, where she forged lasting friendships and offered her heart in service. Furthermore, her melodious voice filled the sanctuary as she sang in the choir at First Baptist Church, sharing her love of music with the congregation and uplifting those around her.
An avid reader, Jean found joy in the pages of books, exploring new worlds and ideas that sparked her imagination. However, her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved, from celebrating milestones to quiet evenings filled with laughter and storytelling.
She leaves behind her cherished son, Bill (Jane) Kelly, grandchildren Kyle (Hazel) Kelly and Jordan Kelly, and great-grandchild Nolan Kelly. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Ladbury, and sister, Marjorie (Gary) Oviatt, who will forever hold the memories of her warm spirit and gentle laughter close to their hearts. Jean is predeceased by her beloved husband, William R. Kelly, her father, Harry L. Ladbury, her mother, Edith Ladbury, her sister, Lois (Jack) Arnold, and sister-in-law, Carol Ladbury.
