Janyth Darleen Lueker (Reed), 78, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. She was born on August 5th, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Jack and Dorthy Reed (Fletcher).
In her childhood, Jan spent significant time in both Clovis and Farmington, New Mexico, and with her grandparents in Muenster, Texas. She graduated in 1965 from Lawrence D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Topeka, Kansas, followed eventually by her parents and siblings.
Jan's career path took many turns. She worked as a switchboard operator, car dealership customer service representative, finance clerk at Stormont Vail, and spent more than 2 decades working at the Kansas Department of Revenue. It was here that she met her husband, Robert Lueker. Together they shared many happy years together before his passing in 2021.
Of all her career paths, Jan’s favorite job was as a florist at Char's Flowers at Holliday Square in Topeka. This led to a lifetime of arranging flowers for retirements, weddings, and many other special events for friends, and friends of friends, alike. Jan loved every holiday on the calendar, but Christmas was her favorite. She had a different theme every year and her home was always a winter wonderland. Her favorite volunteer work was wrapping Christmas presents for various local charities.
In her spare time, some of Jan's hobbies consisted of jewelry and card making, scrapbooking, reading adult romance novels, and caring for her cat, Buffy. Throughout the years she was affiliated with the Topeka Jaycees, The Order of the Eastern Star, The Red Hat Society, and the Phi Tau Omega Sorority, Tau Kappa chapter.
Jan is survived by her wonderful children, Kenny Pingleton (Heather Poort) and Kim Githere, her siblings, Kent Reed (Kathy), Karla Wilcox, Treyse Rathbun (Dick), and their families.
