James (Jim) Albert Rush, of Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, surrounded by family. Jim was born on January 27, 1948, the son of Allen and Margaret (Hill) Rush. After graduating from Hayden High School in 1966, Jim served six years as a medic in the U.S. Army Reserves.
In 1969, Jim was employed by Adams Business Forms where he worked in computer operations. He became an employee of the Kansas Lottery when it launched in 1987. There he held various roles over 26 years and travelled extensively across the state of Kansas until his retirement in 2013.
He enjoyed cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks and spending time with his faithful canine companions Murphy and Louie.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ann (Carter) Rush, daughter Julie Rush (Justin Lightcap), grandchildren Harrison and Grace Lightcap, brothers Tom Rush (Barb), and Mark Rush (Ann), along with many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Evelyn Rush, and brother Mike Rush.
Private family services will take place at a later date. James will be laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to: Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, 1800 SW Stone Ave, Topeka, KS 66604, or the Helping Hands Humane Society Inc., 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
