Ja'Kauis Zabar Cowan

May 2, 2025 — June 23, 2025

Topeka

Ja'Kauis Zabar Cowan, the precious son of Michelle R. and Christopher L. Cowan Jr., was born on May 2, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. His time with us, though brief, was filled with lessons of love, joy, and unconditional affection that will forever stay in the hearts of his family.

From the moment he entered the world, Ja'Kauis was a shining light, a beautiful spirit whose smile could warm even the coldest hearts. His father, Christopher, fondly recalls how Ja'Kauis seemed to know him immediately when he came into this world, never wanting to be put down. Those moments spent together were cherished; the joyful burps followed by the most hilarious expressions brought laughter and delight to everyone around him. Christopher’s heart swelled with love the moment he held his son, a bond that deepened with every cuddle and every precious sigh as Ja'Kauis would fall asleep nestled against him.

Michelle, his devoted mother, also treasures the time spent in close embrace with Ja'Kauis. She remembers how her baby would cling to her, perfectly content resting on her chest. The tears he shed when she tried to lay him down only affirmed the special connection they shared; he was happiest enveloped in her warmth.

Ja'Kauis was a loving child, known for his distinct smile and happy personality, which left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a particular fondness for his blanket, simply relishing the comfort and security it provided. His family learned from him the true essence of love, recognizing just how much they needed their baby boy, even if only for a fleeting moment in time.

As we gather to celebrate Ja'Kauis's life, we remember his spirit—special, cuddly, and above all, an embodiment of pure love. He taught his family about deep affection and the importance of nurturing one another.

Ja'Kauis departed this world on June 23, 2025, at his home, leaving behind a family who loved him endlessly. He is survived by his loving mother, Michelle R. Cowan; devoted father, Christopher L. Cowan Jr.; siblings Ja'Mere Z., Ja'Kari Z., Christopher L. III, Adyson Z., Hope L., and Faith L. Cowan; grandmothers Tausha R. Cowan Mufti, Rhonda Lofland-Dwumfuo, and Magan Lowe; grandfathers Aaron Kuone and Christopher L. Cowan Sr.; step grandfather Christian Faulkner; uncles Nicko C. Cowan, Jermon Cowan, Romelo J. Birch, Christopher Kuone, and Robert Kuone; great uncles Jerimy Kuone and Robert Daniels; as well as aunts Machala Abernathy, Treshauna Heart, Carolyn Malone, Shquettea Lofland, Brandy Cowan and Dontasha Robinson, as well as a host of other family and friends.

Ja'Kauis learned early on how to love deeply and wholly. Though his time with us was short, the impact he made will echo through the hearts of his family. Friends and family are invited to honor Ja'Kauis's memory at a Funeral Service on July 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM, taking place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
