Gerald Lee Mowery, age 79, of Berryton, Kansas passed away on June 27th 2026.
He was born on December 31st, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was the son of Merna Mowery.
Growing up, Gerald attended Concordia High School and graduated in .1964. He went on to further his education at Kansas State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Hotel And Restaurant Management.
In a twist of fate, he met Carolyn Ansberry while both working at McDonald’s. The two fell in love and were married on May 19th, 1990. Together they had one child, Elizabeth.
Gerald was the Food Service Supervisor at one of the University of Kansas Dining Facilities for multiple years.
He loved cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, spending time planting flowers in his garden, and spent 30 years volunteering at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 36 years, Carolyn Mowery, his daughter, Elizabeth Mowery, Sister, Cheryl Lang, Nieces, Angie Dillon (Todd), Amy McDonald (John), Kim Dressman(Greg) and 7 Grand Nieces and Nephews. All of whom will miss him very much.
He is preceded in death of his mother, Merna Mowery, brother, Michael David
A memorial service will take place on Friday, July 31st at 11:00AM at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604 with a lunch reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at 3:00PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 8616 SE Ratner Road, Berryton, Kansas 66409.
