Galen E. Glenn, 89, of Topeka, passed away on June 27, 2025, in the comfort of his home. His life, rich with cherished moments and profound love, will forever be remembered and celebrated.
Galen was born on January 25, 1936, to Charles and Edna (Fleck) Glenn in Topeka, Kansas. Galen had one sister (Donna Phillips) and one brother (Everett Glenn). Galen was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Glenn, his mother Edna (Glenn) Engler, and his sister Donna Phiillips.
Everett Glenn is the remaining surviving sibling.
Galen was married to Mary Jean Harrell on March 27, 1955, in Topeka, KS. They were happily married for 62 years and raised 4 children. Jean preceded him in death on September 13, 2017, their youngest son; Troy Allen Glenn passed away December 22, 2014, and their first grandchild; Teffany Brooke Glenn on August 6th, 2021.
Galen is survived by his daughter; Sandra K Glenn, and his two sons; Wesley E Glenn (Wife Brenda), and Ronald D Glenn (Wife Susan). Galen and Jean were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Throughout Galen's life, he exemplified a hard work ethics, honor, and dedication, having enlisted in the US Navy before being transferred to the US Air Force. Galen bravely faced the challenges of warfare by serving in a tour in Vietnam War where his courage and commitment to his country was truly tested. During Galen's military service his family lived in England, France and multiple US military bases in Texas, South Carolina, Washington and then finally back to Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS where he retired from the Air Force with 20-year of military service.
Now that Galen family was back in his hometown of Topeka, he began his civilian life and started his second career. Galen had the opportunity to reignite with family, school friends, and many co-workers' that he had developed during his career as an Area Manager at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. before retiring for a second time of civilian service.
Galen enjoyed his quiet time working in his wood shop building crafts for his family and the community, grooming his lawn, attending classic cars shows, Topeka downtown cruise nights, as well attending sprint and car races.
In 2024, Dad had the opportunity of his lifetime to take a trip to Washington, DC be a part of a Veteran Honor Flight with 20+ other military veterans and their student-guardians, visiting many of the veteran memorials, receiving a military welcome home with showering of the plane, bands and military escort, bring a close to his military service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to the Kansas Honor Flight.
Galen will lie in state and the family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 1:00 pm also at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Graveside Service will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, 2:00 pm in the West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
