Elizabeth Eva Alleger Kensinger
A very nice lady, friend, mom, grandmother and great grandmother died December 31, 2007. Her physical age was six months plus ninety years. Her birthday being June 23, 1917. Havre, Montana being the point of origin. Those who preceded her in death were two moms, a dad, four brothers, one sister, too many friends, one marriage and an ex-husband.
Because of the depression she found herself in Neodesha, Kansas in her early teens where a very compassionate couple took her into their home, gave her love, guidance and a strong foundation in God and his wonderful words found in her reading of the Bible. She graduated from Neodesha High School in 1937.
August 13, 1938 she married Robert L. Kensinger in Neodesha. Two years later they moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma, after spending a few months in Houston, Texas where their first child was born, Clyde Lee Kensinger. A few weeks after December 7, 1941, Mr. Kensinger enlisted in the United States Navy and Elizabeth went to work for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was a Production Inspector on B-24's being built in Tulsa.
Back in Sapulpa, in late 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Kensinger opened Kensinger Office Machine and Supply. In 1948, a daughter, Theda Veria Kensinger was born. In the early fifties Mr. Kensinger was appointed tag agent for Creek County where Mrs. Kensinger assisted him both in the office machine's business as well as overseeing the running of the tag agency. In 1959 a new business opportunity arose and the Kensinger's moved to Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Kensinger was manager of Accounts Receivable for C & H Transportation Company.
April 1997, Mrs. Kensinger returned to Kansas (Topeka). She marveled at the stately, beautiful, bountiful trees found in Topeka. She enjoyed driving down the Summer streets under their cozy, comfortable canopy's. It also amazed her, after spending 38 years in Dallas, that it only took 20 minutes or less to get to anyplace in Topeka.
Mrs. Kensinger leaves a rich legacy: two children, Clyde Kensinger, Topeka, and Theda Verie (Kensinger) Stone, of San Francisco, California. Five grandchildren: Clyde and Joanne's children - Elizabeth (Beth) Ann (Kensinger) Gould - Midland, Texas. Patricia (Tricia) Lynne Kensinger, Overland Park, Kansas. David Alan Kensinger - Topeka. Theda (Kensinger) Stone and her husband Andrew - San Francisco, California, two children - Rebecca Stone, Miami, Florida and Forrest Stone, San Francisco, California. Eight great grandchildren; Beth and Gary Gould's five: Christina (13), Catherine (10), Carissa (7), Caroline (3) and Daniel (1 1/2) all of Midland, Texas. David and Beth's three children: Thomas (10), Grace (4) and Sam (16 months) all of Topeka. Oh yes, were are a family of Beth's, makes for a lot of finger pointing at family reunions. Mrs. Kensinger, who at time became a Beth, loved that.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW Eighth Avenue, Topeka. Mrs. Kensinger selected ashes over dust. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
Mom was a licensed pilot and loved to fly her little Cessna 180. Some of the things she loved about flying were the beautiful blue sky, the stealth tranquility and the way light displayed itself over the tilled lands, mowed lawns and blooming foliage of God's scenic creations. I imagine the view she has now is out of this world. I love you Mom.
