Earl H. White, 77, of Topeka, passed away Wed., Jan. 2, 2008 at Midland Hospice House. He was born in Pittsburg, KS on June 22, 1930, the son of Guy and Helen (Ruckle) White. Earl grew up near Lamar, MO and in Sedalia, MO. Earl Graduated from Smith Cotton High School, Sedalia, MO. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia, MO, in 1952 with a BS Degree in Agriculture. He attended Central Missouri State College-Warrensburg, MO for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 in Germany.
He married June (Theel) Gillette on Nov. 18, 1977. They celebrated their 30th anniversary in Nov., 2007. Earl worked for the Kans. Division Office of the Federal Highway Dept. as Division Right-of-Way Officer which he retired from in Oct., 1994. Earl worked for the Federal Government in various positions for over 28 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Audubon Society and Washburn Walkers.
Earl is survived by his wife, June, of the home; two step-sons; Mike and his wife, Lorri Gillette of Olathe; Dave and his wife, Kay Gillette of Topeka; five grandchildren: Brandon, Christopher, Melinda, Savannah and Kalli; one brother, Melvin and his wife, Dee White of Okeechobee, FL; one nephew, Terry and wife, Marsha Hurt, Blue Springs, MO, and two nieces, Jerri White of Lakeworth, FL and Jule White of Farmington Hills, MI; three great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lavitta Harrison.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Mr. White will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
