Donna Turner

Donna Mae (Covey) Turner, 84, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. She was born February 2, 1941 in Lawrence, Kansas to Basil and Mabelle Covey. At the time of her birth her family lived in Vinland, Kansas. She attended Huron Grade School, Nortonville Grade School, Nortonville Rural High School, and Holton High School. She was in vocal groups in high school and played the clarinet in band. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College. Donna began her teaching career as a first grade teacher at McEachron Elementary School. Later she worked at the VA Child Care Center and First Christian Child Care Center. Donna was a dedicated teacher who made a difference in the lives of her students.

Donna met Donald Turner in Topeka. They were married in August 12, 1967 in Augusta, Kansas. They had one daughter, Julie.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Max Covey and brother-in-law, John Turner. Survivors include her husband, Donald; daughter, Julie and sister in-law, Marylou Turner.

Donna was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for several years when she moved to Topeka.

Donna was a caring, loving person who put her family first. Donald and Julie could not have asked for a better wife and mother.

In her spare time, Donna enjoyed reading, singing and listening to music. She loved spending time watching sports with Donald and cheering on their favorite teams.

A memorial service to honor Donna will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 18th, 2025 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66606.
