Listen to Obituary

Dixie Lee Kelley, 88, of Southlake Texas, passed away peacefully at home on April 27.

She was born November 21, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph and Eudora Good, and grew up in Topeka, Kansas and Grandview, Missouri. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1955, then continued her education at Kansas State University, majoring in Foods and Nutrition and Journalism. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert; after her graduation, they were married on September 18, 1959.

Dixie worked as a customer service representative for Southwestern Bell until the birth of their first daughter. She then spent many years as a devoted stay at home mom, creating a warm, cozy, and caring environment for her family. She was well known for her fabulous cooking talent, and would joke that her epitaph should simply read “She could cook.”

After her daughters were grown, she went back to work, coordinating activities at the Ward-Meade Historical Site, and ended her career at the Kansas Statehouse, working for both Senator Jerry Moran and Senate President Dick Bond.

Dixie was a devoted member of West Side Christian Church for over fifty year and shared many of her gifts, including her love for gardening, with the community there.

She is survived by two daughters Robin (Mark) Arnold of Fort Worth TX, Kristin (Scott) Billingsley of Keller TX, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Robert, and brother Larry Good.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30am on May 2 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka KS
