Dennis Ray Morriss passed away June 29, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 77.
He was born October 2, 1946 to the late Murry Clinton Morriss and Adele Forst Morriss in Topeka, Kansas.
Dennis married Linda K. McIntyre Lane on May 26, 1979. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Kelly Patterson, granddaughter Sidney Patterson, sister, Dolores M. Crittenden, numerous extended family and a host of good friends.
Dennis graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka and Kansas State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Biology. He obtained his Associate of Fire Science from Kansas City Kansas Community College. He dedicated his career to the Topeka Fire Department. He rose through the ranks, ending his career as an Administrative Chief at the Topeka Fire Department. Dennis also volunteered his time at Soldier Township Fire Department.
Dennis was known for his kindness and love for his wife, family and friends. His love for wildlife, birds and nature was also obvious as he loved to camp, canoe & hike with his friends. He enjoyed several adventures to the Boundary Waters and other wilderness areas. His Walnut Hill Tree Farm was a source of pleasure for many years until he could no longer care for the trees.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, 7:00-8:00 pm at Penwell Gabel Midtown Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 10:30am at Penwell Gabel Midtown Chapel. Graveside service will be at Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral service.
Memorials can be made to the World Wildlife Foundation, Helping Hands Humane Society or Stormont Vail Pediatrics Department and left with Penwell Gabel at the time of visitation or funeral service.
