Delvy Lewis, 68, Topeka, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Midland Hospice House.
Delvy was born March 2, 1944 in Iola, the son of Clyde and Dorothy (Lowry) Lewis. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1962 and the University of Kansas in 1966.
He helped lead the Junior Blues to 3 State Basketball Tournaments and win a state championship in '60. He was 1st Team All-State and a two time All-City player.
He was a three-year starting point guard for the Jayhawks. He helped KU to the
1964 and 1965 Big 8 Holiday Tournament championships, where he was MVP
of the 1965 tournament. The Jayhawks had a 13-1 record and the won the Big
8 regular season championship in 1966.He served as team captain his senior season, where he earned All Big 8 First Team honors.
He was an active member of Topeka Bible Church and served as President of
Topeka Youth Basketball for many years.
Delvy is survived by his wife, Karen Lewis (Dunaway) whom he married August
4, 1968. Family members include daughters, Kristi (Dan) Woestendick, Kerri
(Gary) Rodden, Mindi (Brett) Kuper; grandchildren Cooper, Kallie, Keely;
Brother, Michael Lewis; sister, Vicki Robb; and mother, Dorothy Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10,
2012 at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane, where they request visitors wear KU colors, crimson and blue. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, also at Topeka Bible Church.
