Dee Ann Bowman passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2025 in Topeka, KS. Born April 8, 1951 to Allen & Dorothy (Black) Bowman in Topeka, KS.
Dee was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka, KS., helping to serve communion and was active in many church activities. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1968 in Nebraska.
Dee attended school at Martin Luther Home & School in Beatrice, NE from 1958 – 1971, where she learned life skills and how to take care of herself. The facility is now Mosaic and helps intellectually disabled adults to learn life skills and thrive.
Dee went with Mom & Dad to Estes Park, CO. in 1972 where she helped clean & tidy the cabins at the Water Wheel Lodges that they owned for a year. Then followed them to sunny Phoenix and loved to splash in the pool, but she missed her Topeka family and finally convinced everyone that she wanted to go back to Topeka and get a job and have her own apartment. Initially Sheltered Living helped with some things, but soon she was on her own. Dad rode the city bus with her to show her how to get around the city; this was important for her transportation to work and back.
Dee was employed at Westwood Manor 1974-90 and worked as a dietary aide for St. Francis Hospital cafeteria from 1992 – 2012, when she retired.
Dee enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved her family and friends. She loved mom’s Irish Setter, Kelly, and would often take Kelly into her lap – even though Kelly didn’t want to snuggle with her.
Surviving are her sister, Karen Simecka, Topeka, KS; brother, Steve Bowman, Topeka; nieces, Natalie Bowman, Topeka & Laura Odell (Brian Smith), Lawrence; grandnephew, Henry Zell, Lawrence.
Dee has joined her parents and all her relatives in heaven. We’re sure that there’s a lot to talk about.
Her service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 7th at Faith Lutheran Church with viewing & visitation an hour before the service starts. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS, 66604 or to the donor’s choice. Burial will be in the Bowman family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
