David J. Wooster

David James Wooster was born March 7, 1949 in Topeka, KS, the second child of Manuel Wooster and Alma Lehenbaur Wooster. His sisters, Phyllis (Randy) Copeland and Dianne Lehenbauer, survive.

David was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church; he attended Topeka Lutheran School and Topeka High School, graduating in 1967.

From an early age, his educators recognized that David was exceptionally gifted in math and science, which resulted in his multiple scholarship opportunities. He attended the University of Kansas where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to the University of Minnesota, where he received a Master’s degree in statistics. He was recruited to work for Hughes Aircraft Corp. where he worked for seven years; he then moved to a job at Aerospace Corp, where he worked for several years until he relocated to Las Cruces, NM.

In 1996, David returned to Topeka after his parents were deceased and took up permanent ownership in the old family homestead in central Topeka.

Dave is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a large number of cousins.

Dave loved piano and, unknown to many, he was a highly accomplished and self-taught pianist. He was dearly loved by all who knew him.

Arrangements remain pending at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home where he will be cremated.

Memorials may be made to the Topeka Public Library or the Helping Hands Humane Society.
