David Alan Stillings, 72 passed away on April 25, 2025, at Gulfside Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida, after an extended illness. David was born on March 25, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas, to William and Darnell Stillings. Shortly after his birth, David's family moved to Atchison, Kansas, where he grew up. In 1971, David returned to Topeka to attend Washburn University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
On January 10, 1981, David married Cynthia Rankin. They had three sons: Samuel (Heather), John (Biangca), and Thomas (Ashley) Stillings, and six grandchildren: Alyssa, Anna, Tommy, Scarlet, Heart, and Alowan. David's siblings include Doug (Joyce) Stillings, Mark (Lynn) Stillings, and Brad (Janet) Stillings.
After college, David worked with his brother, Mark, on government contract work. They later co-founded Stillings Oil Company, exploring and completing oil wells in eastern Kansas. He subsequently started his own business as an Independent Petroleum Landman, working for 40 years across several states, leasing land for oil and gas production, researching courthouse records, drafting legal documents, and meeting various people. He developed a respected reputation in his field.
David was known for his love of history, geography, travel, and his respect for his country. He loved and provided well for his family and enjoyed gathering with extended family often. He was articulate, quick-witted, and enjoyed discussions on politics and other topics. He was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and looked forward to each new season.
A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, June 7, at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, KS. Visitation with the family is scheduled for 10:00 am, and his service at 11:00 am. A private burial with family will take place prior to the memorial service.
