Cynthia S. Markula, 85, of Topeka, passed away on January 8, 2026 at Plaza West Regional Health Center.
She was born on June 28, 1940 to Phillip and Eleanor (Schriver) Gibson at Topeka, KS.
Cynthia worked as a homemaker and cared for her parents. She was incredibly kind and loving. She had a joyous spirit and a beautiful laugh. Cynthia was dedicated to her faith and found community as a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
On June 26, 1971, she married Martin F. Markula. Cynthia and Martin lived in Topeka, Kansas.
Cynthia is survived by her brother; James S. Gibson, nephew; Jeffrey G. Gibson, and niece; Paula J. Hurley (Gibson).
She was preceded in death by her husband; Martin F. Markula, father; Phillip C. Gibson, mother; Eleanor S. Gibson, and sister-in-law; Mary E. Gibson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 10am until 11am at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Graveside service will follow the visitation, at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel 4700 SW 17th, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Memorials are suggested to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
