Clifford Joeedwin Myers

December 6, 1942 — March 4, 2012

Clifford Joe Edwin Myers, 69, of Emporia, was born on December 6, 1942 in Neosho, Missouri to Clifford and Ruby Schaub Myers. He died on Sunday, March 4, 2012 of leukemia.

Growing up, Joe enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to dance, to travel and to be with his grandchildren. Special memories for Joe were cross country track meets, dance recitals, jokes played on him by his grandson, playing Santa in the Early Childhood classes at Fort Leavenworth and a very special fishing trip with his son. His wife and children were a constant source of joy and support.

He graduated from College High School in 1960 and Pittsburg State University in 1964 and cherished lifelong friendships with former classmates. In the mid 1960's, Joe became a member of Masonic Lodge 187 of Pittsburg, the Scottish Rite of Fort Scott and the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg. He worked for Social and Rehabilitation Services from 1964 to 1999.

Joe is survived by his wife, Billie, his high school sweetheart; daughter, Paula of Leavenworth, sons Brian (Carrie) of Louisburg and Jim (Lisa) of Madison, WI; grandchildren Tanner, Teagan and Trey of Louisburg and Jacob, Jane, and Will of Madison. Other survivors include his mother, Ruby Myers of Pittsburg, his mother-in-law Louise Clarkson of Independence, sister, Uealene Pingree, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Terry and Mike Johnson; three nieces, Kim Martin (Jason) of Cherryvale, Pam Clemensen (Jason) of Pittsburg and Beth Fiore (Scott) of Boston, one nephew, Todd Johnson of McCune, three great-nieces and four great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Myers, sister, Rita Mae Myers, father-in-law, Bill Clarkson and brother-in-law Gary Pingree.

Joe cared deeply for the 6 North staff at Stormont Vail and the staff of the Cotton-ONeil Cancer Center of Topeka, whose care and compassion made the past year easier for Joe and his family. Dr. "C" was his hero. He donated his body to the KU Medical Center.

The family requests no flowers. Contributions may be made to the Cotton-O'Neil Cancer Center of Topeka or the Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory of Louisburg and can be mailed to the Lyon County State Bank, P.O. Box 488, Emporia KS 66801.
A private service will be held at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
