Clifford Leroy Beard

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we remember and celebrate Clifford Leroy Beard, who passed away on July 19, 2026 in Holton, Kansas, surrounded by his loved ones. Clifford was born on November 1, 1951, in Axtell, Kansas, to Nelson and Vonda Beard, who preceded him in death.

From his earliest days, Clifford’s warmth and wit set him apart. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Centralia High School in 1969. He furthered his education with an associate’s degree from Kansas State University, equipping himself with a love of learning and a sharp mind that became evident in every aspect of his life.

Clifford’s journey through life was guided by his devotion to those he loved most: his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage that was filled with laughter, love, and unwavering commitment. Together, they raised two sons, Andy and Chris, both of whom Clifford cherished and supported unfailingly. His guidance and fatherly pride were evident not only in words but in every action and every event he attended—for Clifford never missed a single gathering, game, or milestone in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

Clifford loved his grandchildren; Ally Pound, Jacob Beard, Carly Beard, and Maddy Beard, always following all of their school and community events. His legacy continues through his great-grandson, Calvin Pound. Clifford’s sister, Sheila Mueting, survives him as well, holding close the countless memories of a brother known for his unique humor and steadfast reliability.

Clifford found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with his family, never missing an opportunity to watch Andy bowl, or exchanging jokes and gentle ribbing with his kids and grandkids. He cultivated a quirky sense of humor that delighted those around him, always quick with a wisecrack or a clever observation. His beautiful memory was the stuff of legend; he could recall the smallest details, from the route you needed to take across town to the latest scores in the sports world, and he reveled in spending hours reading the atlas, mapping out journeys near and far.

Clifford and Linda served as the unofficial neighborhood watch—always alert, always knowing what was going on, but never too busy to offer a helping hand or a friendly wave. He carried with him a trademark Cross pen and a well-earned reputation for being there when you needed him. As an official in baseball, football, and basketball, Clifford shaped the experiences of countless young athletes, often working the games alongside his son Chris. This passion for sports and mentorship was matched only by his devotion to duty and spirit of fair play.

There was a comforting routine in seeing Clifford outside in his favorite lawn chair, a cold diet Pepsi in hand, keeping a watchful eye on the goings-on around him—content in the moment, savoring the sights and sounds.

Above all, Clifford’s proudest accomplishment was the family he helped to grow and love. His humor, intelligence, steadiness, and big heart were gifts that he gave generously. He was, simply, always there for those who needed him—reliable and never once failing the people who depended on him.

A graveside inurnment will take place at 11:00am Saturday September 19, 2026 at Wetmore Cemetery.
