A former head housekeeper at the Ramada Inn, Carol built a reputation for her hard work and caring demeanor throughout her career. Prior to this role, she shared her warmth with patrons as a waitress at a truck stop on highway 24, as well as at little cafes around Topeka.
Carol's life was characterized by her simplicity and kindness. She had an innate ability to connect with people, making friends easily and extending help wherever she could. Her life revolved around her family, and she raised three children on modest means, always ensuring they had what they needed. No matter the challenges she faced, Carol was a giver, known for her generosity and her unconditional support for her family.
Her fondest memories include taking her tip money from her work to treat her son Terry to pie, and her culinary skills were legendary. She had an uncanny ability to draw people in with her cooking, often serving meals with the heartfelt inquiry, "Are you hungry, baby?" Her home was a place of warmth and nourishment, and she welcomed everyone with open arms.
In her leisure time, Carol found joy in engaging with puzzles, which she cherished so much that they often adorned her home like works of art. She also enjoyed visiting the casino, where laughter and light-heartedness filled her days.
Carol is survived by her loving sons, Terry (Donna) Smith and Joseph Hill. She held dear her grandchildren, Shannon Toomey, Casey Zechel, and Mandy Zechel, along with numerous great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry forward the legacy of her love and kindness. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Linda Kirby.
