Bruce Calvin MacArthur, aged 92, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Born on August 10, 1933, in Alta Vista, Kansas, Bruce was the son of Bruce “Orville” and Agnes Ruth (McDiffett) MacArthur. He graduated from Alta Vista High School and attended Washburn University. Proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged.
Bruce was employed at Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka from 1956 until his retirement in 1989. He then worked part-time with several companies including Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel and Yarrington Oldsmobile. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Topeka, and was devoted to his faith at Silver Lake United Methodist Church and later, Topeka First United Methodist Church.
On March 4, 1956, Bruce married Marjorie Lorene Womack in St. John, Kansas. Marjorie preceded him in death on August 29, 2011. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Fults and Darla Sumner (Ron); grandsons, Drew Sumner (Haley) and Dylan Sumner (Charissa); step-grandsons, Eric Fults (Vicky) and David Fults (Stacie); as well as three great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Joan Dodson and Kathy MacArthur. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Mary, Ruth, and John; and his son-in-law, Bob Fults.
Bruce cherished time spent with family and had a passion for sports, particularly K-State, along with travel, camping, fishing, and golf.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
